Jewish Family Services' mission is to provide supportive services that will strengthen families, children and individuals throughout the life cycle within the context of their unique needs and traditions. Our vision is to be the recognized resource for high quality services that enhance the lives of all we serve. We will enable our clients to adapt to change, reach their maximum potential and lead fulfilled lives. We will always be guided by our Jewish values of compassion, kindness and righteousness. Since 1867, our focus has been on helping families and individuals. JFS programs include family counseling and family education, older adult services including housing for income eligible elderly and disabled individuals, refugee resettlement and support services, exceptional needs services to individuals with chronic disabilities including those with serious mental illness and developmental disabilities, a child development center, and volunteer services.
For fiscal year July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009, Jewish Family Services provided services to 2,971 individuals. Of these:
- More than 32% have incomes of less than $12,000; 29% between $12,000 and $25,000; and 39% greater than $25,000. This means that a large portion of our clients are below the poverty level.
- 129 of our clients are below age 18; 66 are age 18-34; 1,115 are age 35-54. Approximately 46%, or 1,317, of our clients are age 55 and older.
- 85% of our clients are Caucasian, 12.5% are African American, and 2.3% are Hispanic; .2% other.
Our newer programs are reaching a more diverse audience. For many years we have also been serving a very high percentage of Eastern European and Russian immigrants. We have provided comprehensive social services to the Milwaukee Jewish and general community for nearly 143 years (since 1867). We offer a sliding fee scale to clients so that they can receive services regardless of income or insurance benefits
